Dec 28th morning was spent taking care of business and met up with friends.
I need to go to the SmartID centre to see how to proceed with getting the new Hong Kong ID card, the one that with a SIM on it. I walked and follow the sign to the centre, but for some reason I missed the direction it points to and lost for half an hour..... anyhow, I get there finally and talked to an officer in the waiting room. I found out that actually I can't get the ID card yet. One thing I noted is how polite and helpful the officer is. I guess the quality of service in the public sector has improved in the recent years.
Afterward, I hooked up with Jesse for lunch. Jesse is a guy I used to hang around with in Ottawa. He was an intern in Alcatel, and schoolmate of Roger (another friend of my).
Then I hit the MTR and surface at Mongkok. I spent the first 20 years of my life lived there. It always has a special place in me. Mongkok has changed every time I go back there, this time is that tower of Langham Place.
No, not this... I mean this.
Anyway, I walked around on Nathan road, Shanghai street and the famous Portland street.
I walked toward Canton road, the street has cleanup. It used to have a lot of small shacks by the street but they are all gone now.
I reached the shore, almost.
There used to be a typhoon shelter, but it all buildup now.
Kam Lam street is where I used to live, the street has a lot of machine shops and eggs wholesalers. This has not changed too much.
After seeing my old home, I headed toward Mongkok market, where I had sweet tofu. It is the original store of the famous one at Market Village in Toronto.
Since it is 4pm, many people are in the market.
It's fun to walk and see people shopping. (also here)
I walked out the toku shop after having a warm and smooth sweet tofu, then hit a wall.
It's a big building, tall and up close to me....
Afterward, I walked and buy some big plastic bags (used as map cover). I never really notice it until now, but there are some young ladies dressed in a really hot outfit walking out on the street..... hum I guess they are....
I walked on Shan Tong street and back to Nathod road, there used to be a McDonald's there, which is one of the first in Hong Kong. Thinking back, it is my favourite fast food when I was young. Too bad it's now gone.
I go around and did some cloth shopping.
At supper time, I met up with Peter. He's one of the gangs I know from the days I hang out in Golden shopping center in Sham Shui Po for computer stuffs. A student of my dad has a computer store there, so I went there often. We have supper at a Thai/Viet place. Food was so-so, but relatively cheap.
After supper, we walked to Yau Ma Tei. Sino centre on Nathan road still the macca for those looking for comics, anime, CD, and Japanese AV.
