Pan Admun Republic of Western Blog - Week 3: Sunburn in Cape Ann

I returned to Chelmsford again 2 days after back from vacation+attend wedding in Calgary, just in time to escape from 30+ degree heat in Ottawa. 8) After I get here, same old, nothing new. More works for Ed working night shift. It just that I got stomach aches for many days since I get back, sucks.

On Sunday, I and John (from work) went to cape Ann. Cape Ann is a coastal area near Boston, about an hour drive. It is consists of 4 communities: Gloucester, Rockport, Essex, and Manchester-by-the-sea. Many of the by-sea properties are occupied by nice (likely expensive) vacation houses.

Without knowing much of the area and what to do/see, we do what all tourist do: find the tourist centre. We follow the highway to the end and found Gloucester, America's oldest seaport. We are actually lucky to find the visitor centre in downtown Gloucester.

So, does this town sounds familiar? It's the one Gloucester in the movie "The Perfect Storm"! We drove by Cape Pond Ice, where the fishing boat Andrea Gail (The one got down with George C.) is park (a copy of it)..... but we didn't know we hit the spot! Actually, ice is a very important item for fisherman because they need ice to keep the fish fresh before dock and unload at port.

After breakfast at some local place, we start out to walk around the town, we saw the little statue of maritime artist Fitz Hugh Lane. There is a word by the statue: Step into my steps and become inspired

I did not step into his shoes, but already inspired. :P

We continue walk around the rest of the town, mostly just walk on and see thing. There are a church and few old buildings around, but that's about it.

Then we continue on to Rockport. We drove pass some nice by-the-sea scenic. We stopped on one place to see the sea from the shore. It's nice to be right by the sea since we don't get to see ocean in Ottawa.

Rockport is a relax small little town with many beaches and a wharf. It is really a nice place to walk around. There was a seafood shop in the Bearskin Neck, a shopping strip area. Before I set out for the day, I announced my theme of the day is lobster. So I have to have some freshly boiled LOBSTER!

It tastes really good when fresh. And there are so much juice from the boiler and some spill on my shorts... so, I got lobstered.

We continues drove around the area, stopped by Gloucester again to see the Fisherman's Memorial, which remember all fishmans go down with their ships. We didn't have time to check out Essex, but was driving along the road to Manchester-by-the-sea. The road is too far off from the sea so we decided to head back out to Boston for some good seafood at the Legal Seafood.
